- SCOTT R. SANTOS, Molecular Ecology (2006) 15, 2699–2718:
"H. rubra is predicted to have high colonization and dispersal ability among anchialine habitats due to: (i) unusual longevity (
> 10 years; Maciolek 1983;
personal observation)"
- Luke J. Linhoff Department of Marine Science University of Hawaii at Hilo:
"H. rubra is a small (7-14mm), red omnivorous shrimp that can be found in pristine ponds with densities approaching 100 per square foot. They have extremely flexible nutritional requirements and have a lifespan of
at least 10 years
- John A, Maciolek, BULLETIN OF MARINE SCIENCE, 33(3): 606 - 618, 1983:
"One of my aquarium assemblages, consisting of about 2 dozen Halocardina rubra, a few Metabetaeus lohena and a single A. lauensis, remained essentially
unchanged for more than 5 years. Maintenance consisted only of adding tap water when evaporation had reduced the volume significantly".
