wow! your work is amazing! I was thinking of giving up with my nanoreef tank, 'cause it's really hard to obtain bright colors from sps corals into a small system like that... But now that I've seen your tanks i'm changing idea XD... I'll follow the topic... tell us some details on how you set them up...

Hi Mark!

I have not been Able to keep reds or blue colors as well in the SPS, they tend to develop a brownish hue likely due to zooxanthellae multiplication Which is common in smaller systems / unskimmed of higher nitrogen tanks

But, alveopora and Goniopora, both of which are notoriously hard to do well to keep the systems and I think both the SPS and the LPS benefit from my feeding schedule.

I never feed in between water changes, only just before a 100% water change. So if I feed once a week, the water is changed once a week. I may feed twice in a week and change the water twice when the bowl is this aged, and packed with over 100 frags of coral in one gallon.

Most systems are fed in between water changes, Which can increase the nutrient load. By feeding a large amount, and then changing it out an hour or two later, I can support more bioload do with less waste, the timing of events is where the luck and patience paid off.

a water change is only 3 minutes long, so even at twice per week it's still less work than most nanos Because of the evaporation control

The dosing system of adding c-balance only in the mornings, before lights on, I feel is also critical. Any tank that can grow coralline algae should be Able to produce SPS

id check on your coralline algae levels first if you are having trouble keeping good coloration, they will almost always retain color in low N water, with good micro feeding support and strong Calcium/Alk levels which the C balance handles in these pico reefs very well
