Flushing water change video

Hello just an update on the reefbowl and the care techniques that handle algae removal, feeding and water changes

Brandon, complimenti per la costanza..........fantastico sopratutto pensando che ha 6 anni.

Su queste forme non ho mai capito come si riesca a tenere puliti i vetri!
(How to clean not plain glasses ?)

complimenti

thank you friends! I hope google translator is working so we can communicate. The glass stays clean of green algae but not coralline, peroxide won't remove it. I am finding however that regular treatments in the areas of no coralline prevents it from ever adhering to the glass

Bella idea e bel progetto!
Non hai problemi con lo Stenophus quando fai cambi di acqua cosi' veloci?
Good Idea and great project! #25
Don't you have problems whith Stenophus , making a so fast water change?

brandon429 22-03-2012 15:35

no it has been in there about 5 years and has gone through over 200 of these water changes!

I think the key is early establishment of this tidal fringing reef action. from the first day into the bowl the stenopus and all the corals were adapted. heres a vid from a while back

from 2010

iodine is not dosed to this system, the biochemical astaxanthin is found within the frozen food cyclopeeze and iodine is a component of that molecule, so the cbs molts regularly. it does not grow in size, these are the golden cbs varieties that stay small...

and here is a shot from last week where the stenopus was emersed on the rocks/coral for a water change

Well, is a very non - typical maintenance protocol.
Obviously, with 100% water change is not a problem to eliminate pollution!
The problem became stability.
Me too, I thought tropical shrimp was very sensible to salinity variations.

How much do you care about precision of salinity and temperature in the change ? Do you use some special trick about that?

Thanks for replying

I always keep the water at .023 and the temp at 78 consistently, even though the tank is one gallon it employs a method of top off restriction.

Any one gallon reef without top off control would require daily addition of fresh water...notice the lid and how it is pressed onto the inner diameter of the vase...this makes a partial seal

the salinity variation is .023 - .0245 every 4-5 days depending on ambient humitidy! so every four days I add about 1.5 ounces of distilled water.

this one gallon vase goes longer in between top offs than a tank 100x its size.

Consider this article, it shows a sealed reef aquarium that does not evaporate at all

same water change schedule, all of the water is changed once a week

this article shows the sealed reef and the build steps for the vase reef

the sealed tank that does not evaporate

(it is fanned with a desk fan for cooling, otherwise it would overheat)

the gas exchange is through an internal refugium. it uptakes carbon dioxide and outputs oxygen 24x7

the refugium is lit constantly from behind the tank, the video shows from the link above
