Nuovamente un orgoglio tutto italiano, 2 nuove specie di Nothobranchius descritte dal ricercatore Stefano Valdesalici, presidente dell'Associazione Italiana Killifish

Nothobranchius kardashevi appartiene al gruppo di Nothobranchius ugandensis, il nome è stato scelto in onore del famoso appassionato ed allevatore bulgaro Kiril Kardashev.

Nothobranchius ivanovae appartiene invece al gruppo Nothobranchius taeniopygus, se non faccio errori la prima fotografia di N. kardashevi è stata scattata da Ira Ivanova a cui Valdesalici ha dedicato la specie attribuendo ad essa un nome ispirato.

entrambe le specie sono state raccolte in pozze affini al fiume Katuma, nella Tanzania occidentale.

le mie congratulazioni a Stefano Valdesalici che, come tutti sanno, svolge un lavoro prezioso con i killi, soprattutto nel genere Nothobranchius...
..e congratulazioni anche ad Ivanov e all'amico Kiril Kardashev, tutti sappiamo le avventure (ed i rischi) che lo hanno portato e lo portano tuttora ad esplorare l'Africa alla ricerca di nuove specie...#25...

Bellissime! Mi chiedo, dato che da quanto ho capito la pubblicazione e le ricerche non sono state fatte col sussidio di un' Università, come si procede in questi casi?

Le ricerche immagino si facciano a spese proprie, si seguono ovviamente delle regole immagino internazionali sui punti da seguire e sulle differenze del DNA per poter dire che una certa entità sia una specie, e la pubblicazione si manda al Giornale Internazionale di Ittiologia?
Se si tratta di altri taxa diversi da Pisces?

Per me è una novità in quanto credevo che per fare cose simili bisognasse per forza farlo col sostegno dell' Università.

Abstract

Laimosemion paryagi, new species, is described from the upper Mazaruni river system, a tributary of the Essequibo River. It is a member of the Laimosemion breviceps group former known as the Rivulus breviceps group, and shares a robust body and deep caudal peduncle with Laimosemion breviceps (Eigenmann, 1909) and Laimosemion lyricauda (Thomerson et al., 1991) and to a lesser degree with L. gransabanae (Lasso et al., 1992) and Laimosemion torrenticola (Vermeulen & Isbrücker, 2000). These species are all endemic to the Guiana Highlands in western Guyana and the neighbouring Gran Sabana in Eastern Venezuela. It is distinguished from other species in the L. breviceps group by morphology and its remarkable male color pattern of red blotches on a turquoise ground color on the flanks and in the unpaired fins and having a rounded caudal fin as opposed to one having extension or being spade shaped. Analysis of mitochondrial DNA sequence reveals that it is genetically distinct from all other members of this group and that inhabitants of the Guyana highlands diverged from each other early in the history of the genus, commensurate with the geological age of the Guiana Shield.
